ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a three-game series to Saint Joseph's Saturday and Sunday at Joyce Field.
The Hawks swept Saturday's doubleheader, 9-1, winning in game one and then 5-1 in game two. Saint Joseph's completed the sweep Sunday with a 10-1 victory.
Game 1 – Saint Joseph's 9, St. Bonaventure 1 (6 Innings) – Box Score (PDF)
The Bonnies finally broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Olivia Moon belted an RBI double to left, scoring Brooke Bobbey from second.
Saint Joseph's, however, responded with a six-run top of the fourth highlighted by a pair of two-run home runs from Kaelin Cash and Jordan Hinkle, taking a 6-1 lead.
The Hawks plated three more runs in the top of the six on a pair of doubles, earning the game one victory.
Ally Haskell started in the circle for the Bonnies, tossing a complete game and scattering 10 hits.
Game 2 – Saint Joseph's 5, St. Bonaventure 1 – Box Score (PDF)
The Hawks were able to strike first in the nightcap, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first on a walk and a fielder's choice.
Two more runs came across to score for the Hawks in the top of the second off a two-run double from Hinkle.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the bottom of the third when Grace Perechinsky belted a solo home run to centerfield, making the score 4-1.
Saint Joseph's tacked on a fifth run on an error in the top of the fifth, earning the doubleheader sweep.
Emily Phalen struck out five batters in a complete game effort in the circle.
Game 3 – St. Joseph's 10, St. Bonaventure 1 (6 Innings) – Box Score (PDF)
The Hawks (12-15, 8-3 A-10) got out to an early lead in the top of the first, scoring a pair of runs on a single and an error.
Saint Joseph's extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the third on an RBI groundout and then plated two more runs in the top of the fourth, taking five-run lead.
The Bonnies (5-20, 1-11 A-10) pulled one back in the bottom of the fifth off a Perechinsky single to right field, but that is all the closer the hosts would get.
The Hawks put the game to bed in the top of the sixth, plating four runs on two hits and a fielder's choice to earn the series sweep.
