SPRING BREAK RECAP

  • The Bonnies headed to Virginia for a pair of games this past week over spring break. St. Bonaventure first defeated VMI in overtime, 9-8, last Saturday before suffering a 17-3 setback at No. 19 Richmond on Tuesday.
  •  Sean Westley scored the game-winning goal in OT at VMI with less than a minute left in the period, giving the Bonnies their first-ever OT win after working extra time for the first time in program history. Brett Dobson made a game-saving stop with three seconds left in regulation to force the extra period.
  • Jackson Rose scored twice and Austin Blumbergs also scored, but nationally-ranked Richmond controlled Tuesday's game.

BONNIES TAKE MAAC WEEKLY AWARDS

  • Bonnies seniors, and lifelong friends, Sean Westley and Brett Dobson were named MAAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respectively on Monday. Westley scored six goals, five assists and 11 total points in two victories last week including the game-winning goal in both contests. Dobson made 36 total saves with a .643 save percentage.

CARDIAC BONNIES

  • Bona is no stranger to playing games that come down to the wire. Their victory over VMI last Saturday in overtime continued a trend of thrilling finishes: SBU has played eight games decided by two goals or less the past two seasons and three of the four games so far are one-goal decisions: wins over VMI (9-8) and Bellarmine (13-12) and a heartbreaker at Saint Joseph's (12-11), which is now receiving votes in the national polls.

ODDS 'N ENDS

  • Westley had a 13-game scoring streak with at least one point tallied in the game at Richmond, longest in program history.
  • Freshman Anthony Cimino ranks third on the team with four assists on the year while fellow freshman Conor Murphy has three helpers and four total points.
  • David Steria has caused five turnovers, most on the team.
  • One of the areas head coach Randy Mearns has said the team can find improvement is in the clear. The Bonnies have been successful in 82 percent of clear attempts thus far.
