EASTON, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure golf team climbed the leaderboard in the final round of the ABARTA Collegiate Invitational Monday, shooting a strong team score of 290 to final 13th overall in the 20-team field.
The Bonnies had a great bounce-back day after working through tough conditions on a cold Sunday for an opening round team score of 309 at The Steel Club.
Sunday's competition was highlighted by an ace from graduate student Danny Gianniny on the 203-yard fourth hole. Gianniny used a 5-iron to battle the 20 mph winds and near-freezing temperatures.
That ace came as part of an outstanding tournament for Gianniny who finished tied for ninth in the field of 108 competitors. He logged an opening round 74 before finishing with 2-under 70 on Monday. He posted even-par 144 for the tournament.
Graduate Jack Geise recorded scores of 75 and 76 to rank second on the team while junior Lance Sininger had a great turnaround second round, following up Sunday's 81 with a season-best effort of 1-under 71 Monday.  Sininger played the par 5s in 4-under for the tournament and drained seven birdies.
Like most of his teammates, graduate Christian Chapman enjoyed a better go in the second round, responding from an opening round of 79 to finish at 73. Also in the lineup for the Bonnies was senior Erik Stauderman who likewise improved his first round by three strokes (81-78).
St. Bonaventure will have one more tune-up for the Atlantic 10 Championship, welcoming Colgate for a head-to-head match at Bartlett Country Club in Olean Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 in a 36-hole format including one round each day.
