ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Atlantic 10-leading Davidson swept a three-game series from the St. Bonaventure baseball team at Handler Park over the weekend.
The Wildcats rallied for a 5-3 win in game one on Friday, then took the nightcap, 10-3. In the finale Saturday, Davidson came away with an 11-4 decision.
Game 1 – Davidson 5, St. Bonaventure 3
Davidson led early, thanks to two wind-aided runs on a day where anything hit in the air was an adventure thanks to wind gusts swirling over 40 mph.
The Bonnies began to chip away, however, as Jagger Nucci delivered his first collegiate home run in the fifth to cut the deficit in half.
Nucci delivered again in the sixth, splitting the left-centerfield gap for a two-run double and a 3-2 lead.
Luke Roggenburk got the start and impressed, working 6.1 innings while allowing just two runs on two hits to perhaps the league's top offense. He struck out six on the day as well for a career-high.
Roggenburk left with the lead and Cody Shimp, Gabe Watts and Ryan O'Connell combined for the next five outs to preserve the 3-2 score.
In the ninth, however, Parker Nolan delivered a three-run blast to left for the lead.
The Bonnies loaded the bases in their final at-bat, but could not pull through.
Game 2 – Davidson 10, St. Bonaventure 3
The Wildcats scored twice in the fourth, but the Bonnies got a run back in the home half thanks to a run-scoring groundout from Nucci for his third RBI of the day.
Two more runs in the fifth gave Davidson the advantage, but the Bonnies got within 4-2 through six.
A fielding error on the infield paved the way for a four-run Davidson eighth to put the game on ice.
Garrett Boldt, Thomas Grilli and Danny Manion all had two hits apiece for SBU.
Bryce Hediger started and was strong on the hill, allowing just three earned runs with two strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Game 3 – Davidson 11, St. Bonaventure 4
Davidson led 3-0 with a run each in the first three innings, then scored three times in the fourth and never looked back in the finale.
Manion drove in two runs with a double while Boldt and Grilli each had two hits.
Ryan Feczko moved to 8-0 for the season on the hill with seven innings of three-run ball, striking out five without walking a batter.
Liam Devine fanned seven in four innings of relief for the Bonnies.
St. Bonaventure plays at Niagara in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
