ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team dropped a three-game series at Saint Louis this weekend.
GAME 1 - Saint Louis 4, St. Bonaventure 3
Unforced errors were the difference in Friday's series opener as the Billikens built a 4-1 lead and held on late.
The hosts posted three unearned runs thanks to three Bonnies errors in the fifth. Saint Louis would tack on what proved to be a very important insurance run in the eighth and withstood a rally effort in the ninth.
Bona's got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Danny Manion in the sixth and scored twice in the ninth thanks to a run-scoring single from Ben Berger and a Billikens error. Bonaventure got the tying run to second, but a fly out ended the threat.
Luke Roggenburk was impressive for his second consecutive A-10 start. The freshman went six innings and all three runs charged against him were unearned. He struck out three as well.
GAME 2 – Saint Louis 7, St. Bonaventure 1
Garrett Boldt singled to right field in the top of the sixth inning to score the lone run of the game for the Bonnies in early game of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Saint Louis capitalized off a Bonaventure error in the bottom of the first inning and plated four unearned runs to start the game.
The Billikens lead was sustained throughout the game with the help of a strong start from pitcher Trevor Harris (6.0 IP/eight hits/ six strikeouts/one earned run).
Bryce Hediger started the game for the Bonnies on the hill, pitching five innings, scattering seven hits, while only giving up one earned run.
At the plate, Jackson DeJohn and Branden Myers each tallied two hits for the Bonnies.
Matt Turino and Tyler Fogarty went 2 for 3 at the dish for the Billikens.
Saint Louis narrowly outhit the Bonnies, 11-10.
GAME 3 – Saint Louis 8, St. Bonaventure 2
The Bonnies showed some fight, stringing together five hits and two runs in the top of the ninth inning, however, Saint Louis would halt the comeback by leaving the bases loaded to end game two of Saturday's doubleheader and sweep the three-game series.
In the ninth inning, Jake Biscailuz and Garrett Boldt each had one-out RBI singles to raise the heartbeat of Saint Louis fans.
At the plate the Bonnies were led by DeJohn who collected three hits highlighted by a double in the fourth inning.
The other Bonnies hits came from Thomas Grilli, Jack Putney and Connor Mays.
Scott Youngbrandt pitched five solid innings for the Billikens, allowing three hits and striking out three.
Cameron Swanger (three RBIs) and Kyle Fitzgerald (three RBIs) each hit home runs to propel the Billikens offense.
For the Bonnies Tripp Breen (five earned runs/one strikeout) and Liam Devine (two earned runs/five strikeouts) both pitched four innings on the mound for St. Bonaventure.
St. Bonaventure outhit the Billikens in game two, 9-7.
The Bonnies will take on Little Three rival Canisius on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Buffalo.
