OLEAN, N.Y. – Jack Geise, Erik Stauderman and Lance Sininger combined as part of a four-way tie atop the leaderboard to power a head-to-head victory for the St. Bonaventure golf team over Colgate in the Duel at Bartlett Country Club.
St. Bonaventure won the match by 10 shots, recording a 566 total for the 36 holes. The Bonnies followed up on Saturday's record-setting 272 with a 284 team score in Sunday's final round. Their 36-hole total was just one off the program record of 565 set in 2016.Â
Geise and Stauderman both shined with 2-under 68 on Saturday and each recorded 1-over 71s Sunday for a winning total of 139. Sininger came home with even-par 70 on Sunday to tie for medalist honors along with Colgate's Robbie Herzig who shot the best score of the final round as the only player in red figures with his 69 after an opening round 70.
Christian Chapman (70-72/142) finished fifth while Danny Gianniny tied for seventh (67-77/144). Also in the lineup for the Bonnies was Peter Byrne (73-76/149).
Playing as individuals for the Bonnies were Jude Cummings (78-71/149), Andrew Lemay (75-74/149), Andrew LaCongo (74-78/152) and Aidan Shaw (84-81/165).
Stauderman and Sininger each carded eagles Sunday, as did Shaw.
The match marked the final home competition for fifth-year seniors Chapman, Geise and Gianniny. The trio will go down as perhaps the top graduating class in program history, each leaving their marks in the Bonnies record books.
"Five years ago we brought in Danny and Jack, two guys both full of talent, both determined to make their mark at SBU. Christian joined the class a year and half later and the three of them became the heartbeat of Bonnies golf," St. Bonaventure head coach Ryan Swanson said of his stellar graduating class. "They are all cemented in our record books and you would be hard-pressed to go through all the categories of stats kept and not find their names in all of them. They have given all they have to this school and our program and they have set the bar high for current and future players to try and reach. Â They got it done in the classroom and on the course. Most importantly, they are great teammates, always looking after each other, always encouraging the younger guys, and always showing heart and determination."
With the victory, the Bonnies finish 3-0 in head-to-head matches this season, also beating Army and Siena during the fall.
The Bonnies next head to Orlando for the Atlantic 10 Championship this coming Friday through Sunday at Reunion Resort.
