KINGSTON, R.I. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Rhode Island in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Rams scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take game one, 8-5, and completed the sweep with a 3-2 win in game two.
Game 1 – Rhode Island 8, St. Bonaventure 5 – Box Score (PDF)
Olivia Moon started the scoring Saturday with an RBI double in the top of the first, giving the Bonnies the early lead.
Rhode Island (8-23, 3-10 A-10) quickly answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the first and then taking the lead later in the inning on an RBI groundout. The Rams plated a third run in the first frame off an RBI double to right field, extending the lead to 3-1.
Moon struck again for the Bonnies in the top of the third, this time with an RBI single up the middle, cutting the deficit to one.
Brooke Bobbey came through with a clutch RBI double with two outs in the top of the fourth, bringing home the tying run from second.
The Rams were able to retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a run-scoring single and double from Cassie Swenson and Ari Castillo, respectively.
With two outs and two on in the top of the six, Bobbey stepped up and lined her second double of the contest, scoring both runners and tying the game at 5-5ÂÂ.
It was not long before the Rams answered again, retaking the lead on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. Two more runs came across in the inning on a home run off the bat of Castillo, putting the game out of reach.
Emily Phelan started in the circle for the Bonnies, tossing 4.1 innings and walked none. Elizabeth Lis suffered the loss, pitching 1.2 innings in relief and struck out one.

The Bonnies were quick to get on the board in the nightcap when Haley Strang scored on a double steal.
Bona's was able to hold the Rams off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth.
The Rams ended the shutout on a sacrifice fly and then took the lead, 2-1, with an RBI single to right field.
Rhode Island tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Castillo belted her second home run of the day to left field.
The Bonnies (7-24, 1-13 A-10) looked to rally in the top of the seventh as Madison Stewart singled home Abby Suhr to cut the Rams lead to one, 3-2, but Rhode Island ended the game with a strikeout during the next at-bat.
Ally Haskell went the distance for the Bonnies, striking out five batters.
The Bonnies and the Rams wrap up their three-game series Sunday, April 10 at 12:00 p.m.
