BRONX, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure baseball team dropped a three-game series at Fordham over the weekend.
Game 1 – Fordham 7, St. Bonaventure 2
Garrett Boldt opened the game with a home run in the first-at bat of the day for an early 1-0 Bonnies lead Friday.
That advantage would remain until the fourth when a two-run Fordham double from Andy Semo put the Rams on top. Cian Sahler doubled the hosts' advantage in the next inning with another two-run double.
From there, Fordham never looked back. Starter Gabe Karslo allowed just three hits to earn the win.
Game 2 – Fordham 11, St. Bonaventure 7
The Bonnies had a strong offensive day, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome late offense from Fordham.
Bona led, 5-3, thanks to a five-run third following run-scoring singles from Boldt and Matthew Williams before a triple off the bat of Jake Biscailuz plated two more. An RBI single from Branden Myers completed the uprising.
Jason Coules tied the game with a two-run homer in the fourth, however, before the Bonnies led again with two in the fifth following a sac fly from Christian Szablewski and another run-scoring hit from Biscailuz.
Again, Fordham answered with two in the home half of the inning for the 7-7 tie and took the lead on a single through the right side by Richard Grund in in the fifth.
Boldt and Thomas Grilli had three hits apiece while Biscailuz drove home three runs. Jackson DeJohn threw out three Fordham base runners behind the plate as well.
Game 3 – Fordham 6, St. Bonaventure 2
The Rams scored a pair in the first inning and would never look back.
Bona got within 3-1 after four innings following an RBI single from Jack Putney. Fordham added two runs of insurance in the fifth, however.
Boldt drove his second homer of the series in the eighth to complete the Bonnies offense.
Putney, Williams and Aaron Herbst had two hits each for Bona.
Liam Devine allowed four earned runs in 7.2 innings on the hill, striking out five and walking only one.
The Bonnies wrap non-conference play with a single game at Niagara Tuesday.
