OPENING FACEOFF
St. Bonaventure will play in the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship Game vs. Manhattan Saturday morning on the campus of Marist College. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and the winner secures the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Eighteen teams will be chosen for the NCAA Tournament with the tournament beginning Wednesday, May 11.

SUMMING UP THE SEMIFINALS
The Bonnies earned a spot in the MAAC Championship Game for the first time in program history after defeating Siena, 12-10, on Thursday afternoon. Jackson Rose tied the program record with six goals and Brett Dobson stopped 27 shots, most in Bonnies history. Dobson broke his own program record of 23 saves set in the program's first Division I game at High Point in 2019.

MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year Sean Westley added five points (1 goal, 4 assists) while Austin Blumbergs and Conor Murphy each scored two goals apiece.

Manhattan scored a thrilling 13-12 victory in overtime, knocking off the host team, Marist, Thursday night. Liam Walshe scored eight goals and Kyle Gucwa tallied the game-winner in extra time.

BY THE NUMBERS
1 –
St. Bonaventure is playing in its first conference championship game. The Bonnies are 2-1 all-time in MAAC Tournament games.
1 –The Bonnies led the MAAC during the regular season in scoring offense (10.92 goals/game), scoring defense (8.92 goals allowed/game) and scoring margin (+2.0).
4 – St. Bonaventure has played at the Division I level for just four seasons. The Bonnies have now reached the MAAC semifinals in each of the past two years. The team seeks its first MAAC title game appearance.
15 – Bona's 15 goals against Manhattan in their March 26 home win represent the most by the Bonnies during a MAAC game in program history.
26 – Sean Westley has broken the Bonnies' single-season assists record, now with 26. He surpassed the total of 23 set by Todd Cilano in 1993 during Thursday's win.
27 – Brett Dobson's 27 saves in Thursday's win over Siena marked a Bonnies record and is the third-highest save total by any goalie in Division I.

CARDIAC BONNIES
St. Bonaventure has had a flair for the dramatic. Eight of Bona's games this season have been decided by two goals or less and the Bonnies are 7-1 in those contests. SBU is also 5-1 in goals decided by just one goal with the lone setback being a 12-11 decision in the season-opener at Saint Joseph's.

That trend continued as the Bonnies held on for a 12-10 win over Siena in the MAAC semifinals, coming from behind in the fourth quarter for the victory.

HISTORICAL STATS
Brett Dobson's .669 save percentage, which leads the nation, would stand second in MAAC single-season history behind only Craig Gravelding's 1996 season for Marist (.689). Dobson's 565 career saves currently stand eighth in MAAC history. As a team, Bona's has a .668 save percentage, which would be best in MAAC team history with records dating to 2000.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies have won two of the three previous meetings. Manhattan won, 15-12, when the teams met in the city in 2019 but St. Bonaventure won the last two games on its home turf. SBU won, 9-8, last year in the program's first-ever win counting toward MAAC standings last season. In this year's meeting, the Bonnies started the game on a 9-1 run and held on for a 15-9 final score.

ABOUT MANHATTAN
  • The Jaspers are in the MAAC Championship Game for the second consecutive year and are looking to get a step further after losing in the title game to Monmouth last year at home, 14-9. Manhattan was the top seed in last year's tournament.
  • Manhattan is 4-1 since dropping a game at Bonaventure in late March. Since, the Jaspers have defeated Canisius (14-11), Siena (8-7) and Monmouth (11-4) and avenged a regular season loss to Marist by toppling the host Red Foxes in the semifinals.
  • Seven Japsers earned all-conference honors, led by Kyle Gucwa (attack) and Sean MacKinney (midfield) and Jake Nicolosi (midfield) who were all named first team all-conference.
  • Manhattan ranked sixth of seven teams in the conference in total goals (125) while the Bonnies are the top-scoring team (154).
  • Saturday's game will be a match-up of two-highly regarded goalies with pro aspirations. Bona's Brett Dobson and Manhattan's Brendan Krebs (9.78 GAA, .523 save percentage) are each ranked on PLL Draft boards.
