The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team kicks off the 2022 season on home turf Thursday, Aug. 25 against Saint Francis (PA) at 6:00 p.m. The Bonnies then head off to Central Connecticut State for a meeting with Blue Devils Monday, Aug. 29 at 2:00 p.m.
BACK IN ACTION
Bonnies head coach Kwame Oduro welcomes back sophomore forwards Matthew Wrobel (five goals, two assists) and Umechi Akuazaoku (three goals) to the 2022 roster. Wrobel's efforts in 2021 earned him a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team last year. Over half the roster is new though; the Bonnies return 15 players from a season ago and welcome 16 newcomers for the new campaign.

New to the 2022 regular season is the removal of the two golden goal overtime periods following the 90 minutes of regulation. All games that are tied following 90 minutes will result in a draw.

ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS
Saint Francis comes to St. Bonaventure for the 2022 season opener, following a 7-8 finish in 2021. The Red Flash are led by sophomores Patrick Heron (five goals) and Maximus Rigby (three goals, two assists). Rigby was one of two Red Flash players to earn postseason accolades in 2021, receiving a spot on the Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team. Saint Francis was picked to finish fifth in the NEC preseason poll.
This will be the first official meeting between the Bonnies and the Red Flash since the 2018 season when Saint Francis defeated the Bonnies, 3-1, at the Marra Athletics Complex.
ABOUT CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE
The Blue Devils look to rebound after a 2-12-2 record in 2021. Senior Sean Gannon (two goals, four assists) and sophomore Jakob Welle-Smogeli (three goals) return for Central Connecticut State in the field. The Blue Devils were picked to finish sixth in the NEC preseason poll.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home to face Bucknell Friday, Sept. 2. That match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
