The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team returns home for a pair of contests against Bucknell and Binghamton. The Bonnies and the Bison square off Friday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and the Bearcats come to town Monday, Sept. 5 also at 7:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
·       The Bonnies are looking to break in to the win column for the first time in 2022, falling to Saint Francis (PA), 1-0, in the season-opener Aug. 25 before a second 1-0 defeat on the road at Central Connecticut State Aug. 29.
·       Bona's junior goalkeeper Jules Dechert has started both games in net to begin the season, stopping seven shots against Saint Francis and three at CCSU.
·       Umechi Akuazaoku and Peter Massaquoi have created chances on the offensive end this year but both are still looking for their first goal of the new campaign. Akuazaoku has tallied three shots on net this year while Massaquoi has a pair of chances on target.
ABOUT BUCKNELL
·       The Bison enter Friday's contest 0-2 on the year, falling to Loyola Chicago (4-1) and DePaul (2-0) to start the season. Bucknell was picked to finish ninth in the Patriot League preseason poll after finishing with a 4-10-3 record in 2021.
·       Sophomore Michael Dempsey has scored the lone goal of the season for the Bison while Jackson Sullivan earned the assist against Loyola Chicago. In net, Bennett Schwartz has started both games, making eight total saves.
·       The Bonnies and the Bison have faced off three times since the 2016 season. Bona's defeated Bucknell, 1-0, in 2017 while the Bison got the better of the Bonnies last season, taking the match 2-1. In 2016, the two team played to a 1-1 draw at the Marra Athletics Complex.
ABOUT BINGHAMTON
·       Binghamton enters the weekend 0-2 after dropping both games at the James Madison Tournament, falling to hosts JMU (3-1) and Drexel (2-0). Binghamton was picked to finish sixth the America East preseason poll.
·       Markos Touroukis has tallied the only goal for the Bearcats in 2022 while Parker McKnight added an assist. In net, Mats Roorda has eight saves in two starts for Binghamton.
·       The Bonnies are 1-2-2 against the Bearcats all-time, taking down Binghamton, 1-0, in 2013 on the road.
UP NEXT
·       The Bonnies head out on the road to take on Little Three rival Canisius Friday, Sept. 9. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
