Wrobel’s Goal Not Enough as Bonnies Fall at George Mason, 2-1

FAIRFAX, Va. – Bonnies sophomore Matthew Wrobel scored his fourth goal of the season but the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team dropped its Atlantic 10 opener on the road at George Mason, 2-1, Saturday night.

George Mason scored early, leaving the Bonnies searching for the equalizer deep into the second half.

The Bonnies were awarded a free kick on the chalk of the 18-yard box in the 78th minute. Luca Nicastro gave a quick touch to Wrobel who curled in a shot into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.

The Patriots (2-3-0, 1-0-0 A-10), however, wasted no time responding with the game-winning goal just 14 seconds later off the foot of Henry Wachsman.

George Mason struck first when Ishmail Kamara sent a low pass across the box to Baline Kocso who slotted home the go-ahead goal in the 33rd minute.

Nicastro led the Bonnies (2-4-1, 0-1-0 A-10) with two shots in the contest while Rafael Pereira, Thomas Yegbor and Umechi Akuazaoku each tallied one shot.

Nicolas Pucci started in net for the Brown and White, making two saves.

The Bonnies remain on the road and return to non-conference play as they travel to Little Three rival Niagara Wednesday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
