DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell, 2-0, at Dayton Sunday afternoon.
From the opening kickoff the Flyers were very aggressive and possessed the ball for most of the game, finishing the contest with 34 shots compared to St. Bonaventure's six.
With 25 seconds left in the first half, Alicia Donley was attempting a cross into the box, but the ball deflected off a Bonnies defender, resulting in the ball going over the head of sophomore goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger and into the back of the net which gave Dayton a one goal lead going into the half.
Dayton (8-1-1, 2-0 A-10) tacked on its second score of the game off the foot of Mairin Wessner in the 60
th minute of the game.
Gottinger made nine saves Sunday, bringing her season total to 76 stops. She currently sits second in the nation in total saves, trailing only Jaidyn Christophe of Texas Southern.
The Bonnies (2-2-5, 0-2 A-10) had their best chance to tally a goal in the 57
th minute when junior
McKenna Robinson put a cross into the box and junior
Lydia Choban fired shot that was saved by the Flyers goalkeeper.
Robinson finished the game with two shots to lead St. Bonaventure, while the Flyers' Itala Gemelli recorded seven shots.
The Bonnies remain on the road for a matchup against VCU on Thursday, Sept. 22. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
