RICHMOND, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell, 2-0, on the road at VCU Thursday night.
VCU scored a pair of first half goals to solidify its victory.
In the 10
th minute, Kanna Matsuhisa sent in a ball off a corner kick that was headed in by Kendyl Sarver for the Rams first goal of the game.
The Rams (3-1-7, 1-0-2 A-10) added on to their lead in the 40
th minute when Sarver sent a ball into the box and it was touch passed by Ella Higgins to the left foot of Anna Bagley for the score.
The best chance for the Bonnies came in the 20
th minute as graduate forward
Cristina Torres was able to steal the ball from a VCU defender and dribble into open space, firing a shot off the diving Rams' goalkeeper.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger was under pressure for most of the game by the strong offensive attack of the Rams.
Gottinger made several great diving saves to keep the game within reach for the Bonnies, finishing with 10 stops Thursday night. She currently sits third in the nation with 86 total saves this season.
This marks her third game this year with 10 or more saves.
St. Bonaventure (2-3-5, 0-3 A-10) finished with a team-high two shots from Torres, while Sarver recorded five shots for the Rams.
VCU goalkeeper Whitney Horton made four saves in the game.
The Bonnies return home for a matchup against Davidson on Sunday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
