ALLEGANY, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's rugby team hosted Rugby East Conference rival Notre Dame College on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The action saw the Notre Dame College Falcons play an aggressive style that the Bonnies matched throughout both the first and second half.
"It was a very close contest and a very physical one. We have a few first year players on the squad that are still getting used to the environment but we were happy with that outcome despite the tight finish. We still have a lot of work to do and this is probably going to be the toughest year competition wise after teams joining the conference. We look on to Virginia Tech, hoping to clean up our mistakes," said Director of Rugby Tui Osborne.
The Bonnies held off the Falcons late for a 13-10 victory in the season opener.
"We made a lot of errors during this game but after only being back with the squad a couple of weeks the men showed a lot of grit and heart dealing with a very physical match. The coaches were happy with the men's effort and are hoping for a much more polished performance against Virginia Tech following two more weeks of hard training," said Assistant Coach Danny Neighbour.
Bonaventure now stands at 1-0 and prepares to face Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 24 at home.
