ALLEGANY, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's rugby team hosted Rugby East Conference rival Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The match witnessed Bonaventure put forth a strong showing against Virginia Tech, outplaying the Hokies all over the field. The Bonnies led 26-3 at the halftime break.

The Bonnies didn't hold back in the second half and continued to press Virginia Tech, scoring 47 points in the half alone.

"It was a slow start for us but as we began to get our foothold in the game we gained more and more confidence in our attack and our skill level. A much stronger performance in the second half gave way to some great team scores. The forwards showed their dominance in the pack preserving space for the Backs to be able to do their thing and attack with pace. Overall a dominant performance and we continue to improve week by week. The men are excited for Army, and with another week of practice under their belts, we are expecting to take a strong and confident team to West Point," said Assistant Coach Danny Neighbour.

Bonaventure defeated Virginia Tech by a final score of 73-3.

"A well-needed confidence boost and a great example of what we can do as a team when we play together. We left a few points on the board in the first half, so we still have a lot to work on going into Army," said the man of the match Keelin Coyle.

The team will now travel to West Point to face Army on Sunday, Oct. 2.
