Bonnies, George Mason End in 1-1 Draw

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team ended in a 1-1 draw against George Mason Thursday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Bonnies (2-4-6, 0-4-1 A-10) opened up the second period with a goal from graduate forward Cristina Torres.

In the 46th minute, senior Kenzie Tarmino sent a free kick into the box that Christine Napoli collected, then Napoli sent it in the air off the head of a George Mason defender to the left foot of Torres for the score.

For much of the second half, it appeared that score would stick for a Bonnies win.

George Mason (1-7-4, 0-2-2 A-10) knotted the score up at one apiece in the 82nd minute of play when a free kick went off the hands of sophomore goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger to the right foot of Mia Casciani in the 82nd minute of play.

That would complete the scoring as the two teams ended 90 minutes in a deadlock.

Tarmino almost gave the Bonnies an early lead when her free kick hit the crossbar and bounced back into play in the first minute of the game.

St. Bonaventure and George Mason played a very even first half with the shot total being 7-5 in favor of the Patriots.

The Bonnies tried to add on to their lead in the second frame when freshman Ami Komori fired a shot just outside the box that was saved by the diving Patriots' keeper.

Gottinger finished with seven saves for St. Bonaventure, bringing her season total to 98 stop this year. She is currently second in the nation in total saves, trailing only Ashley Maribo (99 saves) of Delaware State.

George Mason's midfielder Milan Pierre-Jerome had a team-high six shots, while Tarmino recorded six shots for St. Bonaventure.

Selamawit Caldart tallied seven saves for the Patriots.

George Mason held an 18-13 edge in shots and 5-3 margin in corner kick opportunities.

Bona's notched their first point in the A-10 standings with Thursday's tie.

The Bonnies will finish off their three-game homestand with a matchup against UMass on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
