The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team travels to the City of Brotherly Love for an Atlantic 10 matchup with La Salle Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
BONNIES NOTES
- The Bonnies enter the week 3-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in Atlantic 10 play. Last week, the Bonnies took down Little Three rival Niagara, 2-1, behind goals from sophomores Umechi Akuazaoku and Matthew Wrobel, but fell to Fordham, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.
- Freshman Dean Mercer registered his first collegiate point against the Purple Eagles last Wednesday, assisting on Akuazoaku's goal in the 40th minute, playing a perfect pass over the defense.
- Wrobel leads the Bonnies and is second in the Atlantic 10 with five goals this season. The sophomore forward has netted his five scores with just eight shots on goal for a 53.3 shot on goal percentage.
- In net, freshman Nicolas Pucci has started the last six games for the Bonnies, making 18 saves on the year.
ABOUT LA SALLE
- The Explorers enter Saturday's contest with a 2-5-2 overall record and 1-1-0 early on in A-10 play. La Salle has wins over Stonehill (5-3) and Saint Joseph's (2-1) this season. The Explorers finished 6-10 overall and 2-6 in 2021. In the 2022 Atlantic 10 preseason poll, La Salle was picked to finish 11th.
- Omari Cotterell leads the Explorers this season with seven points on two goals and three assists. Justin Brunow also has three assists for La Salle, adding a goal for five points. La Salle has had 11 different players register a point this season.
- Valentin Kneis has made five starts in goal for the Explorers, making 21 saves. Filip Sabatti has registered two victories in net, stopping nine shots in three starts.
- La Salle has gotten the better of the Bonnies in the last two meetings between the schools with the Explorers winning last season, 1-0, and earned a 2-0 decision in 2019. The Bonnies last beat the Explorers in 2017, 2-1, in double overtime in Philadelphia.
