Hot Shooting Hawks Race Past Women’s Basketball Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's, 92-61, Wednesday evening at Hagan Arena.

I'yanna Lops led the Bonnies with 21 points on a 9-for-15 shooting night from the floor. Nikki Oppenheimer also finished in double figures with a career-high 17 points, including three 3-pointers and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

The Hawks started Wednesday's match up on fire, hitting 9-of-16 shots in the opening frame to take a 27-13 advantage after one.

Saint Joseph's (15-5, 5-3 A-10) hot shooting continued into the second period.

SJU shot 64.7 percent in the second quarter on 7-of-11 shooting, carrying a 26-point lead into halftime.

Lops did her best early on to keep the Bonnies (4-19, 1-7 A-10) in the contest with 14 first half points on 6-of-8 shooting.

It was all Hawks in the second half as the hosts lead grew to as many as 36 in the second half, earning the victory.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday afternoon against La Salle. Tip is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Tom Gola Arena.
