ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to George Washington, 56-43, Sunday afternoon at the Reilly Center.
I'yanna Lops led the Bonnies with 12 points and seven rebounds while Nadechka Laccen chipped in 11 points for the hosts.
Taylor Napper's bucket with 9:41 remaining in the fourth quarter pulled the Bonnies within one possession, 39-36.
George Washington (10-6, 2-1 A-10), however, would go on a 14-0 run to put the Colonials ahead for good, holding the Bonnies without a point for nearly five minutes.
Both defenses took over in the third period with the Bonnies holding GW to 12.5 percent from the field while the Colonials held the Brown and White to 21.4 percent.
The Colonials were able to get back-to-back baskets at the end of the first half, taking a 33-26 lead to the locker room.
In the first 10 minutes Sunday, the Bonnies (3-15, 0-3 A-10) were able to take a 12-11 lead, but the Colonials closed the first quarter on a 7-0 spurt to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Nya Robertson paced the GW offense with 17 points off the bench.
The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 11 on the road at Duquesne. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 29.6 percent (16-for-54) from the field while the Colonials shot 32.8 percent (21-for-64) from the floor.
- GW dominated the Bonnies in rebounding, 53-24, including 22 offensive rebounds.
- Bona's 11 turnovers is the second-lowest amount of turnovers in a game this season.
