Bonnies Host Duquesne Wednesday; Welcome La Salle Saturday on Senior Day

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team returns home to host Duquesne and La Salle at the Marra Athletics Complex this week. The Bonnies welcome the Dukes Wednesday, Oct. 11 with kickoff slated for 6:00 p.m. Bona's hosts La Salle Saturday, Oct. 14 and is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start. Prior to kickoff Saturday, the Bonnies will honor graduating student-athletes Mitch Wambach, Clay Smith, David Cubillos, Marius Dahl, Jules Dechert, Rafael Pereira, Haji Shee and Michael Kohl for Senior Day.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies earned a point in the Atlantic 10 standings, battling to a 1-1 draw last Saturday on the road at George Washington. Daniel Helle put the Bonnies up 1-0 in the 15th minute after Umechi Akuazaoku found the freshman forward on the right side of the field. Helle got the ball to his left foot and fired a shot past the GW goalkeeper for his third goal of the season.

The Revolutionaries, however, were award a penalty kick in the 27th minute and Nacho Alastuey slotted home the chance, tying the game.

SENIOR DAY SATURDAY
The Bonnies are set to honor their graduating student-athletes prior to kickoff against La Salle Saturday afternoon.

David Cubillos is a four-year member of the men's soccer program, playing in 44 career games and making 31 starts on defense. Cubillos has accumulated over 2,800 minutes of playing time and notched his first career goal as a junior against Duquesne last season. He played in a career-high 16 games in 2022 while making 13 starts. Cubillos is set to graduate in May with a degree in health science.

Mitch Wambach is a four-year member of the Bonnies men's soccer program. Wambach has appeared in 18 games during his career, making a career-high seven appearances as a junior in 2022. Wambach is a three-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's honor roll and is set to earn a degree in finance in the spring.

Michael Kohl is a four-year member of the men's soccer program. He has appeared in two games during his career, making one start as a freshman in 2020-21. He is a three-time member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He will earn a degree in marketing this spring.

Clay Smith is in his second season with Bonnies men's soccer after spending his first three seasons at Marquette in the Big East. During the 2022 season, Smith played 1,431 minutes out of a possible 1,440, playing full time in the final 14 games of the season. This year, Smith has appeared in nine games while making six starts, earning his first point as a Bonnies player with an assist in a 2-0 shutout of George Mason. He was an Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree last year and is currently in the clinical mental health counseling program. He also serves as a graduate assistant for academic support.

Jules Dechert is a two-year member of the program, starting in 20 games during his career. Dechert carries a career save percentage of .748 while stopping 107 shots. He is a two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week this season. He leads the A-10 in saves (56) and saves per game (5.6). Dechert made a career-high nine saves vs. Dayton Sept. 30 and has five or more saves in 14 games during his career. Dechert is set to earn a degree in finance in May.

Haji Shee is a two-year member of the Bonnies soccer program, appearing in 25 games and making 24 starts during his career. During the 2022 season, Shee started all 15 games he played in, logging 1,259 minutes on the back line. He has registered over 830 minutes in the field this season, making nine starts. He was a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2022 and is working toward his master's degree in general business.

Rafael Pereira is in his second season with the Bonnies, making 27 appearances and starting in 24 contests on the wing. Pereira has registered 13 career points on two goals and nine assists. Pereira has registered a career-high six assists and ranks second in the Atlantic 10 this season. In his first season with the Bonnies in 2022, Pereira tied for the team lead with three assists while adding a goal to his line for five points. He earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll last year and is set to earn a degree in sports management in May.

Marius Dahl is in his first season with the Bonnies after spending his first four years at Wilmington University. During his lone season with the Brown and White, Dahl has appeared in 12 contests, making a pair of starts. He registered his first point for the Bonnies with an assist in a 4-0 shutout over Little Three rival Canisius Sept. 20. Dahl is working toward a master's degree in general business.

DUQUESNE NOTES
Duquesne comes into Wednesday's contest 5-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, but are coming off back-to-back losses to George Mason (1-0) and Davidson (2-1). The Dukes also have wins over Virginia Tech, Niagara, Robert Morris and Massachusetts this season. Duquesne was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

Jayden Da leads the Dukes with 15 points on six goals and three assists while Ask Ekeland has 13 points via six goals and an assist. In net, Zoltan Nagy has started all 11 games, making 53 saves.

LA SALLE NOTES
La Salle enters the week 4-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in A-10 play. The Explorers are coming off consecutive shutout losses to Loyola Chicago (3-0) and Saint Louis (1-0). La Salle was picked to finish 11th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

Americo Pereira leads La Salle with seven points, registering three goals and an assist in 11 starts. Yuval Nimrodi also has three goals for the Explorers in 12 games played. Filip Sabatti has started 11 games in net this season, stopping 38 saves.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies head back on the road for their final non-conference matchup of the 2023 season Tuesday, Oct. 17 when they travel to Bucknell. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
