Men’s Soccer Travels to Bucknell, Hosts Saint Joseph’s This Week

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team returns to action with a pair of games Tuesday and Saturday this week. The Bonnies get the week started on the road at Bucknell Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to host Saint Joseph's Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies picked up a pair of wins last week at the Marra Athletics Complex, shutting out both Duquesne and La Salle, 2-0.

In Wednesday's non-conference contest against the Dukes, Umechi Akuazaoku scored a pair of goals to lead the Bonnies to victory while Nicolas Pucci made a career-high nine saves in net for his second career shutout.

Saturday afternoon, the Bonnies celebrated Senior Day with an Atlantic 10 win over the Explorers behind goals from Rafael Pereira and Dean Mercer. Jules Dechert registered his fourth shutout of the season with three saves.

DEFENDING HOME TURF
Entering the week, the Bonnies are 5-2 this season at the Marra Athletics Complex and are outscoring opponents 17-9. Bona's is averaging 2.4 goals per game at home while allowing just 1.3 per contest to opponents.

The last four Bonnies victories at home have come via shutout – Canisius (4-0), George Mason (2-0), Duquesne (2-0) and La Salle (2-0).

LEADERS OF THE PACK
Four different Bonnies have registered 10 or more points this season. Juniors Umechi Akuazaoku (five goals, four assists) and Kenzo Brito (four goals, five assists) lead the way with 13 points each. Fellow junior Andres Javitt has chipped in 12 points on five goals and a pair of assists in his first season with the Bonnies while senior Rafael Pereira leads the team with six assists, adding a pair of scores for 10 points.

It marks the first time the Bonnies have had four players with double-digit points since the 2013 season. Emmett O'Connor (21 points), Nicholas Perillo (17 points), Brad Vanino (16 points) and Brad Beaumont (10 points) helped the Bonnies to an 8-9-2 record that season.

BUCKNELL NOTES
Bucknell comes into Tuesday's contest 1-9-2 overall and 0-5-1 in Patriot League action. The Bison took down Mount St. Mary's 2-1 in the season opener but have since dropped nine out of their last 11 games to go with a pair of draws with George Mason and American.

Charlie Holmes leads Bucknell with seven points off of three goals and an assist. Zane Domsohn has six points for the Bison, matching Holmes for the team lead with three goals. In net, Freddie Lapworth and Jake Nicoll have split time. Lapworth has made eight starts to go with 16 saves while Nicoll has appeared in five games, starting four and making 15 saves.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S
The Hawks enter the week 3-10-1 overall and 1-4-1 in Atlantic 10 play. Saint Joseph's has earned wins over Temple (3-1), Army (3-2) and Dayton (1-0), but are currently on a five-game losing streak. The Hawks were picked to finish tied for ninth with Davidson in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.

Blake Driehuis paces the Hawks offense with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Bart Kooistra has tallied seven points on two goals and three assists. Lars Haavie and Trevor Jackson have each played over 600 minutes in goal this season. Haavie has started in eight games, making 23 saves while Jackson has made seven appearances and has made 22 saves.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies wrap up the regular season on the road at VCU Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
