CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore Mia Winters led the St. Bonaventure women's cross country team at Atlantic 10 Championships held Saturday morning at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
Heavy rain along with lightning delayed the race by 40 minutes, with a light mist and a wet course left for the competitors after the morning storm.
Winters was undeterred, posting a time of 22:58.7 to place 67th out of 141 runners. Her finish is the best by a Bonnies women's student-athlete at Atlantic 10 Championships since Kerry Caher's fourth-place run in 2014.
Saturday was the first 6K Atlantic 10 Championships for the women, and Winters significantly improved her 118th-place finish from last year's 5K run when she made her conference championship debut.
Freshman Meghan Lex made a strong first impression at the conference championship meet as she ran the course in a time of 23:13.4 to place 80th individually.
Fellow freshman Katelyn Wilkes (23:38.5) and sophomore Jenna Gregory (23:39.7) were at the finish line together while sophomore Molly Gipson (24:21.0) placed fifth on the team.
Bona's top seven also included senior Lauren McGee (24:27.6) and junior Olivia Ippolito (24:44.6).
The Bonnies' regional qualifiers will next compete in the Northeast Regionals Friday, Nov. 10 in the Bronx.
