Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Daniel Helle netted his third goal of the season, helping the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw at George Washington Saturday afternoon.
St. Bonaventure led early.
In the 15th minute, Umechi Akuazaoku found Helle on the right side of the field on a counter-attacking chance. Helle settled the ball, getting it to his left foot and fire his shot past the GW goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.
The Revolutionaries, however, tied the game in the 27th minute on a penalty kick off the foot of Nacho Alastuey.
The Bonnies (4-5-3, 1-3-1 A-10) looked to break the deadlock after the break with Akuazaoku having a pair of chances in the 53rd and 55th minute, but were both stopped by the goalkeeper.
George Washington (2-7-4, 0-4-1 A-10) was forced to play the final six minutes with 10 players following a red card in the 84th minute.
Bona's looked to capitalize on the man-up opportunity when Kenzo Brito seemed to have found the go-ahead goal in the 86th minute, but was caught just offside.
Helle had a chance on net in the 89th minute, but had his shot go off the post and out of play, ending the contest. He finished the contest with a team-high six shots.
Jules Dechert earned the start in net, making five saves in the contest. GW's goalkeeper Tom Macauley finished with four saves.
Andres Javitt, Rafael Pereira and Akuazaoku registered two shots each while Brito also added a shot.
The Bonnies return home to host Duquesne Wednesday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m.
