Hot-Shooting Spiders Too Much For Bonnies Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. – I'yanna Lops registered her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds, but the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Richmond, 87-45, in the regular season finale at the Robins Center Saturday evening.

Lops added three blocks to her line, moving into sole possession of second place on the Bonnies all-time blocks list with 124 career rejections, passing Vachelle Manly, '92. Nikki Oppenheimer chipped in eight points for the Brown and White while Taylor Napper added seven points.

Richmond (18-9, 8-6 A-10) got out to a fast start, scoring the first five points of the game Saturday.

Later in the first, Oppenheimer made a 3-pointer from the wing to bring the Bonnies within six, 13-7.

Addie Budnik's free throw with just over a minute left in the first gave Richmond a 21-11 lead after one.

The Spiders defense clamped down in the second frame, holding the Bonnies to just one made field goal in the quarter, racing out to 38-16 lead at halftime.

Richmond kept their foot on the pedal in the second half, growing its lead to as many as 48 in the fourth quarter.

The Bonnies (6-25, 3-13 A-10) looked to build some momentum in the fourth with a 12-4 run, including four made threes, but it was not enough as Richmond held on for the double-digit victory.

Bona's is back in action in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at CHASE Fieldhouse March 1-5. The Bonnies first round opponent is too be announced.
