Bonnies Softball Drops Pair of Contests Sunday

HONOLULU – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped games to Marist and Hawaii Sunday evening in Honolulu.

The Bonnies fell to the Red Foxes, 11-1, in the first game Sunday before dropping a close contest against host Hawaii, 2-0, in the night cap.

GAME 1 – Marist 11, St. Bonaventure 1 (5 Innings)
Marist got on the board first in the top of the first inning with an RBI walk.

The Bonnies were quick to respond in the bottom of the second when Olivia Whitecar singled home Reanna Perkins.

The Red Foxes broke the game open in the top of the third, scoring four runs to take a 5-1 advantage.

Marist put the game out of reach in the fourth frame with five runs on a single, double and triple. Another insurance run in the top of the fifth earned Marist the victory.

Emily Phelan earned the start against Marist, tossing 2.0 innings. Kayla Ziemke and Lyndsay Flippin pitched in relief for the Bonnies.

GAME 2 – Hawaii 2, St. Bonaventure 0
The Bonnies and Rainbow Warriors were locked in a pitcher's duel through five full innings.

Hawaii broke the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth when Haley Johnson belted a two-un homerun to left-centerfield.

Rainbow Warrior starting pitcher Brianna Lopez recorded the final three outs in the top of the seventh, earning the victory.

Elizabeth Lis was stellar in the circle, tossing her first complete game of the season and allowed just four hits while striking out a pair.
