Ware Posts Career Night; Bonnies Fall at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Breauna Ware's career-high 21 points were not enough as the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to George Mason, 65-51, Wednesday evening at EagleBank Arena.

Ware finished the contest 8-fo-12 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the free throw line in a career-best 37 minutes.

Payton Fields cut the Bonnies deficit to six right out of halftime with her second three of the contest, but the Patriots were quick to respond with back-to-back baskets to extend their lead back to double figures.

Ware scored the Bonnies final nine points of the third quarter to bring the visitors back within seven points heading into the final frame.

George Mason (12-13, 5-7 A-10) started the fourth with a 7-0 spurt to go back up 14, 58-44, en route to earning the victory.

I'yanna Lops' 3-pointer opened the scoring in the second period for the Bonnies (4-23, 1-11 A-10), pulling within nine early on, 23-14.

The teams traded baskets the remainder of the half as the Patriots took a 13-point lead into halftime, 34-21.

George Mason used a 9-0 run over 3:33 in the first quarter to pull away by 12 early on, 21-9.

Lops found an open Kirah Dandridge underneath with under 20 seconds remaining in the first to cut the deficit down to 10 after the first quarter.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Feb. 11 on the road at Loyola Chicago. Tip is slated for 3:00 p.m. EST.

  • I'yanna Lops set the Bonnies single season blocks record, registering her 53 block of the season Wednesday night.
