Billikens Prove Too Much For Bonnies Saturday

ST. LOUIS – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a doubleheader on the road at Saint Louis Saturday to begin Atlantic 10 play.

The Bonnies fell in game one, 11-0, followed by a 12-4 decision in the nightcap.

GAME 1 – Saint Louis 11, St. Bonaventure 0 (F/5)
The Billikens got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 3-0 lead on a pair of run-scoring singles.

The hosts put the game out of reach in the fourth, plating eight runs on five hits in the inning.

Emily Phelan got the start in game one, striking out a pair of batters in 3.1 innings of work. Kayla Ziemke pitched in relief for the Bonnies.

GAME 2 – Saint Louis 12, St. Bonaventure 4 (F/5)
Saint Louis was able to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning following a St. Bonaventure error.

The Bonnies, however, responded in the top of the second with three runs of their own. Reanna Perkins reached base on a throwing error which brought home the visitor's first two runs of the ballgame. Olivia Santos was next up, also reaching on a SLU error, scoring Perkins and making the score, 3-1.

The Billikens grabbed the lead right back in the bottom of the third with an RBI single and a two-run home run to right-centerfield.

Juanita Wolak reached base in the top of the fourth, scoring Brooke Bobbey and tying the game at 4-4.

Saint Louis (8-16, 2-0 A-10), however, plated eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning which was highlighted by a three-run home run, earning the doubleheader sweep.

Elizabeth Lis earned the start in game two and Ziemke worked in relief for the Bonnies.

The Bonnies (2-12, 0-2) are back in action Sunday for the series finale. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
