Bonnies Battle Hard, But Come up Short Against Davidson, 11-10

St. Bonaventure N.Y – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team dropped a back-and-forth battle against Davidson, 11-10, in its conference home opener Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

St. Bonaventure jumped out of the gate quickly, striking first off a Grace Hollenbeck goal just 45 seconds into the game.

Just a minute later, Davidson responded quickly as Molly Murphy connected on a free position.

The Bonnies controlled the rest of the first quarter, behind goals from Courtney Fox and Fiona McGovern to take a 3-2 lead.

The second quarter of play was back-and-forth as Davidson and St. Bonaventure traded scores.

Junior Kassi Hogan received a pass from Jessica Notaro and put her shot past the Wildcat goalkeeper to give the Bonnies a 6-4 advantage. However, Allie Harnett scored with about 20 seconds left to cut the deficit for the Wildcats to 6-5 entering halftime.

The second half of play began with a scoring drought for both, but was broken by Davidson's Julianee Carey on a free position shot to tie the game at six apiece.

Abby Hiltz connected for her 12th goal of the season on a free position shot to retake the lead later in the third quarter.

Two minutes later Notaro found the back of the net, using a spin move to add a highlight reel goal to her stat column for an 8-7 Bonaventure lead.

Davidson (7-2, 2-0 A-10) was able to use a strong effort on both sides of the field to capitalize on a 4-0 run in the second half, turning an 8-7 deficit into an 11-8 advantage with eight minutes left in the final period.

The Bonnies roared back late in the fourth quarter, thanks to a pair of goals from Hollenbeck and McGovern to bring the game to within one.

However, St. Bonaventure (3-6, 1-1 A-10) would be unable to even the score back up with the Wildcats.

Hiltz had a chance in the final minute to knot the game up at 11 with a free position opportunity, but her shot would be stopped by Davidson goalkeeper Amanda Monahan.

McGovern led the Bonnies offense with three goals and an assist, while Hiltz and Hollenbeck each added two scores.

In the cage, senior Ashley Herrick made 12 saves

Davidson was led by Allie Hartnett's three goals, while Grace Fahey chipped in two scores and two assists.

Monahan finished with six saves in net for the Wildcats.

The Bonnies will hit the road as they travel to take on Duquesne on Wednesday, March 22nd. Start time is set for 4:00 P.M.
