3/24/2023 10:43:00 AM

ST. BONAVENTURE (1-7) at MARQUETTE (4-3)
Saturday, March 25 - 12:00 p.m. CT / 1:00 p.m. ET
Milwaukee, Wisc.

OPENING FACEOFF
  • St. Bonaventure makes its first-ever trip to the Central Time Zone and the state of Wisconsin when it plays at Marquette Saturday. The Bonnies seek a bounce back after a 22-6 loss at Syracuse Tuesday, the most goals allowed in program history.
  • Bona leaves the Eastern Time Zone for just the second time in their history. SBU played two games in Colorado in February 2020 (at Denver, vs. Air Force in the Denver Faceoff Classic).
  • The Bonnies are playing a Big East opponent for just the second time. SBU played at Denver in 2020, dropping a 16-3 final to the No. 16-ranked Pioneers.
  • Freshman Patrick Carpenter had his first two-goal game Tuesday at Syracuse, leading the Bonnies with two goals. He continues to improve, scoring in three straight games.
  • Senior Joey Paterno and junior Tage Hoeg tallied their first goals of the year at Syracuse Tuesday. Paterno scored on the power play while Hoeg caught the attention of the lacrosse world with his amazing, highlight reel wrap-around goal while leaping to the ground.
  • Graduate Sean Westley is looking to snap a recent scoreless streak, having not scored in each of the past two games. Westley, the 2022 MAAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year, has never gone three straight games without registering a point during his Bona's career.
  • Freshman faceoff specialist Quinn Nolan has a winning percentage of nearly 57% at the faceoff dot so far this season. That total ranks in the top-25 nationally and is second among all Division I freshmen, behind only Robbie Stewart of Cleveland State (66%).
  • The Bonnies are in the midst of four straight games on the road. Bona will go nearly a month between home games, next hosting their first-ever A-10 game on home turf April 8 vs. Saint Joseph's.

FAMILIAR FACE: The Bonnies are playing Marquette for the first time in program history, but there will still be a very familiar face wearing the Blue and Gold: Marquette transfer Jackson Rose played the past four seasons with the Brown and White of Bona's. Rose ranks third in Bonnies program history with 52 goals while his 63 points stand fourth in school history. A power play specialist as a junior with eight man-up goals in 2021, Rose broke out last year by leading the MAAC with a school record 40 goals in 2022. Current Bonnies grad student Austin Blumbergs is two goals away from tying Rose for third in school history, entering this weekend with 50 goals. Blumbergs (61 pts) is also two points from tying Rose in the SBU record book.

SLUMPING STICKS: The Bonnies are seeking to break out of their offensive funk. Bona's has scored six or fewer goals in four straight games, the longest streak in their Division I history.

ANOTHER BONNIES FIRST: First-year Bonnie Cole Tucker became the latest Bonaventure freshman to tally his first career goal as he netted a score March 14 at Canisius. Six freshmen have tallied their first career goal this year: Tucker, Patrick Carpenter, Quinn Nolan, Owen Tasse, Josh Rosa and Aiden Smith. Junior Tage Hoeg also tallied his first goal March 21 at Syracuse.

ABOUT MARQUETTE
  • The Golden Eagles are 4-3 on the year and Saturday will be their final tune-up for Big East play. Marquette has scored wins over Michigan (14-9), Detroit (10-5), and Lindenwood (17-2) while scoring a huge victory over fifth-ranked Penn State last week, 12-11.
  • The Bonnies and Marquette have one common opponent - Marquette lost to Bellarmine at home, 11-10, on March 11. Bona's opened the year with a 14-10 setback at Bellarmine. Marquette also battled Utah in an 18-16 loss and fell to No. 2/3 Notre Dame, 21-10.
  • Marquette reached the Big East Tournament for the first time since 2018 last spring and returned all but its top-two short stick defensive midfielders off last year's roster, including welcoming back their top-six scorers. Bobby O'Grady was the Big East Freshman of the Year with a school-record 45 goals. The team also returned All-American defenseman Mason Woodward and preseason All-Big East long pole David Lamarca as well as goalie Mike Allieri who led the Big East with 12.6 saves per game last year.
  • This season, Jake Stegman leads the team with 24 points while O'Grady has tallied 23 points. Allieri has tallied a 48% save percentage with 66 saves and a 10.9 GAA in the cage.
