Ramblers Win Series From Bonnies Softball With Doubleheader Sweep

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Loyola Chicago in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies dropped game one to the Ramblers, 10-1, and dropped the rubber game of the series, 3-1, after Bona's won the opener on Friday.

Kennedy Haberl led the Bonnies at the plate, registering four hits on the afternoon, including a perfect 3-for-3 in game two.

Game 1 – Loyola Chicago 10, St. Bonaventure 1
The Ramblers jumped on the Bonnies in the top of the first inning, plating five runs on four hits to take a commanding lead early on.

Loyola Chicago pushed three more runs across in the top of the second, taking an 8-0 lead.

The Bonnies were able to break through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth when Abby Suhr doubled home Haberl from first.

The Ramblers (12-17, 6-3 A-10) plated two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a single up the middle, extending their lead to 10-1.

Emily Phelan started game one in the circle for the Bonnies. Elizabeth Lis pitched six innings in relief, striking out three and surrendering just four hits.

Game 2 – Loyola Chicago 3, St. Bonaventure 1
Haberl gave the Bonnies an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when she blasted a solo home run over the left field fence for her third long ball of the season.

The Ramblers, however, struck for three runs an inning later, taking a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth frame.

The Bonnies (7-18, 2-7 A-10) were able to bring the potential winning run to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Loyola Chicago recorded the final out to earn the victory.

Phelan scattered just four hits and struck out three in the complete game effort.

The Bonnies are back in action on the road Wednesday at Little Three rival Canisius.
