St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team had its comeback come up short against Richmond, failing 20-12 Saturday at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Richmond (10-2, 4-1 A-10) jumped out to a quick start, taking a 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
St. Bonaventure had a few opportunities to get on the scoreboard early, but were turned away by the Spiders' goalie.
The Spiders turned defense into offense, adding another goal to maintain a 4-0 lead at the end of the first frame.
The Bonnies were able to get on the scoreboard five minutes into the second quarter as freshman
Grace Hollenbeck used a free position shot to add her ninth goal of the year and cut the deficit to 5-1.
Richmond responded with three goals to take an 8-1 lead with eight minutes left in the second quarter.
Jessica Notaro capitalized on a pair of yellow cards on the Spiders as she found the back of the net for the teams second goal of the game.
The Spiders added two more to grab a10-3 advantage heading into half.
St. Bonaventure (4-8, 2-3 A-10) began to make the deficit smaller, scoring four goals in the first five minutes of the quarter to cut the Richmond lead to only five.
However, Richmond increased its lead to double digits in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Offensively, the Bonnies were led by
Jessica Notaro's hat trick, while
Fiona McGovern and
Grace Hollenbeck and
Abby Hiltz each added two goals.
In net, senior
Ashley Herrick made 9 saves for St. Bonaventure.
Lindsey Frank (5 goals, 2 assists) and Colleen Quinn (4 goals, 3 assists) led Richmond's attack.
Emilie Boyer started the game for the Spiders and tallied 7 saves in net for the spiders.
The Bonnies will hit the road to take on Saint Joseph's Saturday, April 8. The game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
