Bonnies Fall Short in Back and Forth Battle with Hawks

PHILDADELPHIA, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team pushed the defending A-10 Champion Saint Joseph's to the final whistle, but ultimately fell short, 13-11, in a back and forth battle on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks had the upper hand early as Lisa Ross found the back of the net for the just one minute into the contest.

St. Bonaventure got on the board and tied the score at one apiece, thanks to Nora Anderson's ninth goal of the season.

Saint Joseph's (8-6, 5-1 A-10) tallied three more goals to end the first quarter with a 4-2 advantage.

Jessica Notaro got things started for the Bonnies in the second quarter by scooping up a groundball ball off a missed shot and putting it into the back the net.

Following Notaro's score, Kassi Hogan got in on the action by receiving a pass from Notaro and going behind her back to beat the Hawks' goalkeeper.

Anderson added another to the scoring column as the team used a 5-1 second quarter run to enter halftime with a 6-5 lead.

St. Bonaventure (4-8, 2-4 A-10) carried its momentum into the second half with another score from Notaro to record a hat trick Saturday afternoon.

Brooke Piper also found the back of the net to start the second half and give the Bonnies an 8-5 advantage
However, Saint Joseph's roared back, going on a 4-0 run to take a one score lead entering the final 15 minutes.

The Bonnies went on a 3-0 run of their own to start the final frame, highlighted by Notaro's fourth and fifth goals of the contest to notch a two goal advantage with 9:19 remaining in the contest.

St. Bonaventure was unable to fend off the Hawks' attack in the final minutes, recording another 4-0 run down the stretch to secure a 13-11 victory.

Offensively, the Bonnies were led by Jessica Notaro's five goals, while Fiona McGovern (2 goals, 2 assists) and Nora Anderson (2 goals) also chipped in on the attack.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Herrick made 13 saves in net for the Bonnies.

Saint Joseph's was led by Alexa Capozzoli (four goals), Maddie Yoder (two goals) and Bonnie Yu (two assists).

Jorden Concordia collected seven saves for the Hawks.

The Bonnies will return home as they host George Mason on Saturday, April 15. The game is set to begin at noon. During Saturday's contest the team will be raising funds and awareness for the CJD Foundation.
