ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University baseball team dropped the series finale against Rhode Island, 8-1, Sunday afternoon at Handler Park.
Â
The Rams struck first to begin the game following an RBI double off the bat of Billy Butler that drove in two more.
Â
The Bonnies (5-25, 2-7 A-10) responded in the bottom of the first with an RBI double of their own from
Jackson DeJohn to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Â
However, Rhode Island would add a run in the second and two runs in the third to push its lead to 5-1.
Â
That was enough for Rams' starter Braden Perry as he settled in to throw six innings, while only allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Â
Along with Perry, St. Bonaventure was unable to get anything going against the two Rams' relievers that came in to secure their sixth conference win of the season.
Â
Jackson DeJohn recorded two hits at the plate for the Bonnies, while
Ryan O'Connell threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and only allowed one hit with three strikeouts.
Â
The Rams (16-16, 6-3 A-10) were led offensively by Alex Ramirez, Billy Butler, and Anthony DePino who each had two hits and two runs batted in.
Â
The Bonnies complete their nine-game homestand in a non-conference matchup against Niagara on Tuesday with game time scheduled for 2 p.m.
