RICHMOND, Va. – Graduate student Sean Westley scored a hat trick to highlight the regular season finale for the St. Bonaventure men's lacrosse team, but the Richmond Spiders captured a 26-10 victory behind a prolific attack.
For the Bonnies, they were able to keep the score to 6-2 after 15 minutes and it was a 13-6 margin at halftime as Westley, Joey Paterno and Drew Kenney all scored two goals apiece.
The Spiders (9-4, 4-1 A-10) would turn it on in the second half, though, holding an 8-1 advantage in the third quarter to erase any doubt.
Westley closed his outstanding Bonnies collegiate career with his 14th career hat trick and finishes with program highs in goals (93), assists (63) and points (156).
Fellow grad student Austin Blumbergs also scored a goal in his final collegiate game, ranking third in Bona's career goals with 54 and third as well in points with 64.
Kenney and Paterno both tallied their first career multi-goal games while senior Jake Rosa and freshman Cole Tucker found the back of the net once each as well.
Freshman Quinn Nolan carved out his own part of the Bonnies record book as he won 10 faceoffs on the day to establish a new season record for faceoff victories in program history. He wraps up the season with 137 total wins at the X, surpassing the previous record set a year ago of 129. His 85 groundballs, including 10 on Saturday, are also a season-high by a Bonnies player.
In net, senior Conan Lynch played 24 minutes in a reserve role and made six saves.
Zack Belter also closed his Bonnies career by causing two Spiders turnovers and picking up three groundballs.
