ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Four members of the St. Bonaventure University baseball team have been recognized for their work academically and on the field through their selection to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team: Jack Putney, Thomas Grilli, Luke Roggenburk and Rushil Bhat.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore or above academically while sporting a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and also making a minimum amount of appearances throughout the season.

Putney has been perhaps Bona's top everyday player this year, leading the team in batting average at .327 while starting 40 of 43 games played thus far. He also owns team bests in on-base percentage (.397), RBIs (25), doubles (12), total bases (72) and multi-hit games (15) while smacking three home runs and standing second on the team in hits (51).

In the classroom, the Clarence, N.Y. native is a senior finance major with a 3.55 cumulative GPA.

Grilli also is a member of the Bonnies everyday lineup, primarily playing left field with 37 starts and 40 total appearances on the year. He's hit .262 with two home runs and is tied for second on the club with 23 RBIs. In 70 career games over the past two seasons since transferring to St. Bonaventure, the Toronto native boasts a .274 overall batting average.

He graduated with his degree in psychology, boasting a 3.66 cumulative GPA and is currently working on graduate classes with a 3.64 GPA in his MBA work.

Roggenburk joined the team's Atlantic 10 pitching rotation again this season, making 11 total appearances including six starts. In A-10 play, he has a 5.54 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 37 innings against eight walks. He had the longest outing of any Bonnies pitcher this year when he worked nine innings of two-run ball, striking out five with no walks in an extra innings win at George Mason last month.

An accounting major, the sophomore native of Avon Lake, Ohio, owns a 3.89 cumulative GPA.

Bhat has made nine relief appearances out of the Bonnies bullpen this season, striking out 12 batters in 11 innings. Last season, he made 22 appearances for Bona's which ranks top-10 in program single season history.

A native of London, Ontario, he graduated with a degree in finance and a 3.98 cumulative GPA. In his graduate work, he owns a perfect 4.0 working toward his MBA.

The CSC Academic All-District teams are nominated by and voted on by collegiate sports information directors across the country.
