GW Holds On For 4-3 Victory vs. Bonnies Baseball

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Fielding woes from the St. Bonaventure defense proved to be the difference in a 4-3 setback Friday afternoon at Handler Park.

George Washington first took advantage of Bona defensive miscues in the third when two errors opened the door for a two-out, two-run homer off the bat of Greg Marmo for the game's first runs.

In the GW sixth, three more errors helped to create two runs for the visitors and 4-0 lead. Reliever James Capellupo worked out of a bases loaded, one-out jam with a groundout and a strikeout to end the inning without further damage.

The Bonnies got on the board with a run in the sixth and got within a single tally when Manuel Castro crushed a two-run homer to left-center for his fourth round-tripper of the season.

SBU sent the leading run to the plate in the ninth, but a caught stealing on the bases and lineout ended the game.

Castro had two hits while Joey Bruno smacked two singles as well.

Nolan Feidt started and worked 5.1 innings with four unearned runs crossing during his time on the hill. He walked one and struck out three.

Capellupo impressed in relief, surrendering just two singles without a run across in 3.2 innings. He did not walk a batter and fanned four.

Andrew Cutler (6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) picked up the win for GW and Matt Bruno collected his second save of the year.

The two teams will battle for a series victory Saturday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
