LEWISTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell in the final non-conference action of the season Thursday afternoon at Niagara.
The Bonnies dropped a heartbreaker in game one, 1-0, and Niagara took an 11-0 decision in game two.
Game 1 – Niagara 1, St. Bonaventure 0
The Bonnies and Purple Eagles were locked in a pitcher's duel, heading into the final frame with zeros showing on the scoreboard.
Niagara was able to load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh when pinch hitter Kaylee Haines singled home the game-winning run from third.
Olivia Whitecar and Reanna Perkins registered singles for the Bonnies in game one.
Emily Phelan earned the start, scattering five hits and fanning four while allowing just the one run.
Game 2 – Niagara 11, St. Bonaventure 0 (F/5)
Niagara was able to plate five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead early on.
The Purple Eagles added to their advantage in the bottom of the third, scoring six to take a commanding 11-0 lead.
Elizabeth Lis and Kayla Ziemke combined for three strikeouts in game two while Abby Farber, Emily McKenna and Shannon Costello registered hits for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies wrap up the regular season Saturday and Sunday with a three-game series against Saint Joseph's. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. each day.
