SAN ANTONIO – Junior Andres Javitt scored his first goal as a Bonnie to help the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team secure a 1-1 draw at Incarnate Word Sunday evening.
The Bonnies and Cardinals played a back-and-forth first half that saw the game remain scoreless heading into halftime.
Following a build-up play from the midfield in the 68th minute, Rafael Pereira delivered a cross into the scoring area where it deflected off Umechi Akuazaoku and an Incarnate Word defender, falling to Javitt just behind the defense. The junior midfielder fired a composed shot into the top right of the net for his first points in the Brown and White.
The Cardinals, however, wasted no time getting the equalizer on the board.
Just a minute later after a hydration break, Incarnate Word's Miles Merritt crossed in a ball where Peleg Armendraiz was there to head home the game-tying goal.
Incarnate Word looked to break the deadlock in the 79th minute, but Bonnies goalkeeper Jules Dechert made a diving save to his left, preserving the tie.
Dechert finished with six saves in net for the Brown and White.
Javitt paced the Bonnies with three shots while Xaver Erhlich registered two shots. Bo Drath, Kenzo Brito, Mo Tall and Pereira eached tallied a shot apiece.
St. Bonaventure heads home after a 1-0-1 trip to Texas following a 2-0 win at Houston Christian Thursday night.
The Bonnies return home to make their 2023 home debut Friday, Sept. 1 when they host Central Connecticut State. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
