ANNAPOLIS, MD – Anastasia Gubanova and Abbie Tyler teamed up to win the "A" doubles flight to pace the St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team at the Navy Invitational this weekend in the first action of the 2023-24 season.
Gubanova and Tyler went a perfect 4-0 to claim the "A" flight, winning the finals over Navy's Emily Tannenbaum and Sia Chaudry, 6-3.
Also advancing to the finals of their flight were Sienna Smith and Kelly Barnes, but the duo would fall to Anna Jordan and Sylvia Eklund, 6-3. Smith and Barnes finished the weekend 3-1 in "B" flight doubles action.
Isabella Venter and Cirkeline Lundberg also teamed up for a doubles victory in the "B" flight quarterfinals.
In singles, Barnes posted a 2-1 record in the "E" singles flight, advancing to the finals before falling to Ximena Cano from Monmouth, 6-4, 6-3.
Also in singles play, Lundberg and Smith captured two wins each to advance to the semifinals of the "B" and "C" singles flight, respectively.
Venter, Gubanova and Kashish Bote earned registered a win in singles for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Sept. 23 at the UB Invite.
