NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – St. Bonaventure University men's soccer senior goalkeeper Jules Dechert has been selected as the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
It marks the second time this season that Dechert has garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades, also earning honors Aug. 28.
Dechert helped guide the Bonnies to a perfect 2-0 week, posting shutouts over Little Three rival Canisius and Atlantic 10 foe George Mason.
Last Wednesday against the Golden Griffins, Dechert stopped five shots en route to his second shutout of the season.
Against the Patriots Saturday evening, Dechert matched his season-high with seven saves, including three saves in the final 10 minutes to preserve the victory.
Dechert currently ranks first in the A-10 and ninth in the NCAA with 5.43 saves per game. He also ranks second among conference goalkeepers and is 13th in the NCAA with 38 saves this season. Dechert's .792 save percentages sits fourth in the A-10.
The Bonnies are back on the road for a pair of matches Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Robert Morris and Saturday, Sept. 30 at Dayton.
