Bonnies Tripped Up at Dayton, 1-0

DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team dropped an Atlantic 10 contest on the road at Dayton, 1-0, Saturday evening.

The Bonnies fended off the Flyers offense for a scoreless first 45 minutes with Dayton tallying 17 shots and six shots on goal.

Bonnies goalkeeper Jules Dechert registered five first half saves, including a stop while moving to his left on a powerful Dayton strike in the 25th minute.

Dayton (4-6-1, 2-1-0 A-10) looked to break the tie in the 36th minute on a chance off a corner kick, but junior Keegan Dawson was able to head the ball off the line, keeping the game scoreless.

The Flyers were able to get the game's only goal following halftime off the foot of Sidike Jabatah in the 50th minute.

Bona's looked to score the game-tying tally in the 83rd minute when Rafael Pereira took a chance on goal. His shot was deflected, forcing the Dayton goalkeeper to change direction to make the save.

Dechert finished Saturday's contest with a season-high nine saves.

Kenzo Brito paced the Bonnies with three shots while Pereira and Rashid Aroza tallied two shots each. Umechi Akuazaoku, Bo Drath and Andres Javitt had one shot apiece.

The Bonnies (4-4-2, 1-2-0 A-10) are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Marra Athletics Complex when they host Massachusetts at 4:00 p.m.
