The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team heads back out on the road for a pair of contests at Binghamton and Saint Francis (PA) this week. The Bonnies get the action started against the Bearcats Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 p.m., and cap off the week at the Red Flash Saturday, Sept. 9 at 3:00 p.m.
LAST GAME RECAP
The Bonnies were able to make it a one-goal game midway through the second half, but Central Connecticut State was able to hold on for a 3-2 victory last Friday at the Marra Athletics Complex. Bona's started out fast, scoring the game's first goal in the ninth minute when junior Andres Javitt flicked a shot over his left shoulder and in the net.
CCSU, however, netted the game-tying goal just before halftime in the 44th minute. The Blue Devils grabbed the lead just out of the break in the 48th minute before adding a third goal in the 54th minute.
Rafael Pereira cut the deficit in half with his first goal of the season in the 60th minute, but it was as close as the Bonnies would get.
TOP OF THE RANKS
Mo Tall continues to make an impact early on in the 2023 season. Through three games, the graduate student's three assists lead the Atlantic 10 along with George Mason's Luis Maestre. His three assists also rank third in the NCAA.
Tall was credited with both assists vs. CCSU Friday afternoon after earning his first point in the Brown and White Aug. 24 with an assist at Houston Christian.
For his career, Tall has three goals and eight assists for 14 points, playing three seasons at Bucknell before joining the Bonnies.
As a team, the Bonnies rank second in the A-10 in assists (5) and assists per game (1.7).
ABOUT BINGHAMTON
The Bearcats enter the week 0-3, falling to William & Mary, No. 1 Syracuse and Colgate to begin the new season. Binghamton finished last season with a 6-9-4 record overall and 3-2-2 in America East play. BU was picked to finish sixth in the America East preseason poll.
Jack Green leads Binghamton with three points this season, registering a goal and an assist. Mael Lopes has netted one goal while Carlo Cavalar has recorded an assist. In net, Dylan McDermott has started all three games, making 14 saves.
The Bonnies and Bearcats battled at the Marra Athletics Complex last season with the Brown and White coming out on top, 2-0. Goalkeeper Nicolas Pucci made his first career start in net while also recording the first shutout of his career.
ABOUT SAINT FRANCIS
The Red Flash begin their week 1-0-2 and are coming off a 3-3 draw with Wright State Saturday afternoon. Saint Francis began its season with a 2-1 win over Canisius before drawing with Fordham, 1-1. SFU finished 2022 with a 6-6-4 record overall and 3-2-3 in Northeast Conference Play. The Red Flash were picked to finish fifth in the NEC preseason poll.
Joschi Schelb leads the Red Flash with five points on a goal and three assists while Alvaro Planas has netted a pair of goals early on this season. In net, Jordaine Jaeger has made 10 saves in three games.
Saint Francis got the better of the Bonnies last year in the season opener, winning the matchup 1-0. Jules Dechert made seven saves in net for the Brown and White in the matchup.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies return home Wednesday, Sept. 13 to host Little Three rival Niagara. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
