ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting second half from George Washington, falling to the Revolutionaries, 78-62, Sunday afternoon at the Reilly Center.
GW (8-8, 1-3 A-10) and Nya Robertson got off to a fast start as Robertson was 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first six minutes, pushing the visitors ahead, 17-7.
The Bonnies (4-12, 1-4 A-10), however, responded with an 8-0 run to end the quarter down a bucket, 17-15.
Back-to-back threes from Asjah Inniss gave the Revolutionaries a nine-point advantage with 5:18 remaining in the first half, however.
Bona's was able to answer once again, scoring the next 10 points to take its first lead of the game, 30-29, with just over two minutes to play in the second.
Mayowa Taiwo put GW back on top, 35-33, with a hook shot in the post, but Nadechka Laccen was fouled with 24 seconds on the clock to tie the game with free throws at 35-35 heading into halftime.
The Revolutionaries took control in the third quarter, opening the second half with a 16-3 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 51-38.
The Brown and White battled back once again, using a 9-0 spurt and pulling back within four, 51-47.
Ahead by three with under a minute left in the third, Inniss struck again with back-to-back triples, giving GW 59-50 lead headed into the final 10 minutes.
George Washington never looked back as its lead grew to as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter, earning the Revolutionaries first conference win of the season.
Robertson led all scorers with 31 points to power George Washington.
Laccen paced the Bonnies with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Isabellah Middleton and Haskell also finished in double figures with 10 points each.
The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 17 on the road at Duquesne. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the contest shooting 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from the field while GW shot 41.9 percent (26-for-62) from the floor.
- GW made 14 threes to the Bonnies seven.
- Bona's scored 23 points off of GW's 18 turnovers while the Revolutionaries scored nine points off of 17 SBU turnovers.
- Kirah Dandridge registered nine points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.
