ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fought to the final whistle but dropped a 65-57 decision to Davidson Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center.
Dani Haskell paced the Bonnies with her fourth 20-point performance of the season, pouring in 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including four threes.
Payton Fields also finished in double figures with 11 points to go along with six rebounds while Isabellah Middleton chipped in nine points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Bonnies were able to pull within five, 36-31, right out of halftime with back-to-back baskets from Haskell and Kirah Dandridge.
The Wildcats (15-6, 5-5 A-10), however, answered with four straight points from Issy Morgan to push their lead back to nine, 40-31.
A 7-0 run later in the third gave the visitors a 14-point advantage with under four minutes to go.
Four free throws from Middleton to end the third pulled the Bonnies (4-17, 1-9 A-10) back within 10, 49-39, heading into the final frame.
Davidson's lead would grow to as many as 15 in the fourth, 59-44, but the Bonnies continued to battle.
The hosts ended the game on a 7-0 run capped off by five points from Middleton but it was not enough as Davidson held on for the eight-point victory.
Davidson started Wednesday's contest with a 9-2 run in the first, taking an early 11-2 lead.
In the second, Haskell drained a 3-pointer from the win to pull the Brown and White within six, 25-19, but Davidson's Mallorie Haines answered with a three of her own on the next possession to make it a nine-point contest.
Fields tallied five straight points with time winding down in the first half, but Charlise Dunn responded with a triple to give the Wildcats a 36-27 lead at the break.
Dunn finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the Wildcats.
The Bonnies return to action Wednesday, Feb. 7 on the road at George Washington. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m. in the nation's capital.
