WASHINGTON, D.C. – Isabellah Middleton's 21 points were not enough as the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to George Washington, 69-48, Wednesday evening in the nation's capital.
Middleton finished the contest 6-for-14 from the field, including a season-high four 3-pointers to go along with six steals and five rebounds. Nadechka Laccen also finished in double figures with 15 points to go with five rebounds.
The Bonnies were able to jump ahead early on, using a 10-2 run to take a 13-6 lead.
Kamari Sims made a 3-pointer with 53 seconds left in the first to make it a four-point game after one.
George Washington (9-14, 2-9 A-10) grabbed the momentum in the second period with a 16-2 run, pushing the hosts ahead by double digits, 25-15.
Middleton was able to cut the deficit back to single digits before halftime with her second three of the contest, sending the Bonnies into the locker room trailing, 25-18, at halftime.
Nya Lok pushed the GW lead back to double digits, 30-20, with a triple just over a minute into the second half.
A pair of free throws from Laccen and Dani Haskell a few minutes later pulled the Bonnies back within seven, 36-29.
GW, however, responded with a layup from Sims and a three from Lok to push the Revolutionaries lead to 41-29.
Trailing in the fourth, the Bonnies were able to cut the deficit to 10 following a layup from Laccen.
That is as close as the Bonnies (4-18, 1-10 A-10) would get as the Revolutionaries grew their lead to as many as 23 in the fourth period.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Feb. 10 at VCU. Tip is slated for 1:00 p.m.
