Men’s Soccer Welcomes Dayton Saturday

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team puts its five-game home unbeaten streak on the line when the Bonnies host Dayton Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies scored a dominating 4-1 victory over Bucknell Tuesday evening on Senior Night behind goals from Umechi Akuazaoku, Mattia Ferretti, Will O'Connor and Neshawn Sutherland.

Akuazaoku opened the scoring for the Bonnies in the 19th minute with assists from Kenzo Brito and Andres Javitt.

Bona's doubled its lead in the 26th minute when Ferretti found the back of the net for the second time this season.

The Brown and White capped off their first half scoring in the 39th minute when O'Connor, who had just substituted into the game, laced a shot across net for the first goal of his collegiate career. Callum Shillington and Rashid Aroza were credited with an assist on the play.

In the 69th minute, Sutherland put the game out of reach for good when he pounced a rebound chance following a shot from Javitt, netting the first goal of his career as well.

DOWN TO THE WIRE
Following Saturday's matchup with the Flyers, the Bonnies have just two contests remaining in the regular season, traveling to take on George Mason (Oct. 26) and hosting Massachusetts (Nov. 2).

Entering the weekend, the Bonnies sit tied for fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings with eight points alongside Fordham. Duquesne and George Mason are tied atop the standings with 12 points each while Saint Louis has 11 points and Davidson has nine.

DAYTON NOTES

  • Dayton enters Saturday's contest 6-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are coming off a 5-1 victory over formerly unbeaten No. 1 West Virginia Tuesday. UD has also captured wins over Detroit Mercy, UNLV, SIUE, Indiana and George Washington this season. Dayton finished last year with an 8-7-6 record and defeated VCU in the Atlantic 10 Championship game, advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Martin Bakken leads the Flyers this season with seven goals and three assists while Joseph Melto Quiah has 15 points on six goals and three assists. In net, Dario Caetano has started all 11 games, making 35 saves and allowing 15 goals with a 1.36 goals against average.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Flyers last met at the Marra Athletics Complex during the 2022 season when the Flyers were ranked No. 16 nationally. Bona's and UD battled to a 1-1 draw with the Bonnies' lone goal coming from Matthew Wrobel.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies head back out on the road to travel to take on George Mason Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. in Fairfax, Va.
