GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Mia Winters posted the second-fastest individual 6K time in St. Bonaventure women's cross country history, pacing the Bonnies to a sixth-place finish Saturday morning at the Aubrey Shenk Invitational.
Running the historic Gettysburg battlefield under cloudless skies on a gorgeous day for a meet, Winters was near the front of the pack for the entirety of Saturday's race, moving up through the field steadily in the second half of the race. She was the top finisher for any collegiate team, finishing behind only five runners either running unattached or for running clubs.
She bested her previous top 6K time set in Lock Haven last month by over six seconds and became just the second Bonnies runner to break the 22-minute barrier, joining Kerry Caher '15 who owns the program record of 21:13.
As a team, the Bonnies placed sixth overall with 157 points, but fourth among the 19 collegiate squads taking team scores, behind only host Gettysburg (95), Towson (104) and Allegheny (124).
Freshman Miranda Habshi (23:01.1), sophomore Katelyn Wilkes (23:18.0) and junior Faith Caldwell (23:30.4) all gave the Bonnies top-50 finishers out of 212 competitors by taking 28th, 36th and 46th overall.
Caldwell ran an Atlantic 10 qualifying time in the meet, joining Winters, Habshi, Wilkes, Claire Cuneo, Molly Gipson, Maddie McMahon, and Jayne Gavin as Bona's conference qualifiers for the season. Caldwell's time was a new top-15 individual program mark as well, jumping to 13th in the Bona's record book.
Cuneo (23:50.3) and Gipson (23:54) were neck-and-neck at the finish line to complete the team's top seven along with Gavin (24:02.9).
