Welcome to "Behind The Bonnies," a new GoBonnies.com series where we get to know the student-athletes at St. Bonaventure University. In this edition, we meet Bonnies junior Mia Winters. For previous installments in the series click here.

Mia Winters has proven to be one of St. Bonaventure's best runners since becoming a member of the team in 2022. 

During her junior campaign, Winters earned Atlantic 10 Cross Country Performer of the Week on Oct. 1, 2024. She also posted the second-fastest 6K time in Bonnies history when she broke the 22-minute barrier with a time of 21.55.9.

As a sophomore, Winters finished in the team's top-two every meet during the cross country season. She paced the Bonnies at the A-10 Championships with the best finish by an SBU women's runner in nearly a decade with a time of 22:58.7. Winters represented the Bonnies at the NCAA Northeast Regional and finished second on the team with a 6K time of 22:55.8. This fall, she ran an even faster A-10 Championship meet time and again qualified for the NCAA Regional meet Nov. 15.

She has also shined on the track. Last spring, she claimed the highest finish to date by a Bonnies runner at the A-10 Outdoor Track Championships by earning 10th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a school record time of 11:11.20.

What is your favorite memory playing your sport? Going to A-10s with my team

What is your favorite hobby to do outside of playing your sport? How mentally tough it is when it comes to racing. In my opinion, racing is 80% mental and 20% physical. 

Where is your dream vacation spot? Bora Bora 

What is the best part about being a part of your Bonnies team? The community and family that I have because of my team 

What is your favorite sports team? New York Giants 

Why did you choose St. Bonaventure? I chose St. Bonaventure because of the community I felt when I first came to campus 

You can bring any four people to dinner, who are you inviting? I would choose my two sisters and parents because I don't get to see them that often because of being away at school

What is your favorite quote from your coach? "Do you want to be cream of the crop or cream of the crap?"
