ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team bested Daemen, 71-57, Friday evening in an exhibition contest at the Reilly Center.

Dani Haskell paced the Bonnies with 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Payton Fields also finished in double figures, tallying 19 points to go along with five rebounds in 27 minutes off the bench.

Bona's defense clamped down in the first period, holding the Wildcats just seven points in the quarter and without a basket for the final 4:59, taking a 19-7 lead after one.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Haskell in the second quarter grew the lead to 25-10 as the lead stretched to as many as 19 in the period.

Daemen, who advanced to last season's NCAA Division II Elite Eight, clawed its way back into the game, pulling within 10 with 5:46 showing on the clock.

The Bonnies, however, returned from the media timeout with an 8-0 run to pull away for good, earning the 71-57 win.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JIM CROWLEY
"There was a lot of positives to take from tonight. We started well. That first quarter is how we want to look for a longer period of time, which is good for us to see and understand that. I thought everyone got better from last week and we want to continue that trend."

"We wanted to play Daemen because we knew the experience and we knew they knew how to win. We don't have a lot of experience and we are figuring out how to win. It gave us a good opportunity to see how we handled that and the response is something we can build on."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies officially kick off the 2024-25 season when they host Binghamton Saturday, Nov. 9. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
